Artist Chris Burden is currently showing two pieces in London.
14 Magnolia Double Lamps, 2006 (pictured here), is an installation of 14 massive lamps from 1940’s Hollywood, installed in a 2 x 7 grid in the main room of SLG. The gallery space and the dislocation of time makes these ornate relics a commentary on industrialism and civic pride.

Elsewhere, in conjunction with this installation, Burden is showing The Flying Steamroller, 1996, a huge sculpture consisting of a twelve ton steamroller attached to a pivoting arm with a counterbalance weight.

EPIC 2006 - Ethnography in industry

EPIC 2006 brings together people who are actively thinking about the theoretical and methodological development of ethnography in industry practice.

EPIC 2006 brings together people who are actively thinking about the theoretical and methodological development of ethnography in industry practice. We want to draw participants who are both working in industry, as well as those who consult or collaborate with industry. We create a collaborative venue where those practicing their ethnographic training in the corporate setting can benefit from mutual support and sharing of information. So please join us this year in Portland as we explore the theme of Transitions.

WHEN: September 24-26, 2006
WHERE: Intel Corporation Conference Center, Portland, OR

Radio Gagarin

My friend Michael had a birthday at Radio Gagarin at the Notting Hill Arts Club on Sunday night.

The crazy gypsy band were fantastic, all frantic energy and crowd pleasing antics. From their site:-

“Oi Va Voi and friends invite you to RADIO GAGARIN - Sunday Socialism, an all Gypsy Balkan Russian Klezmer Sunday shakedown at the NHAC. Special guest live musicians, classic movies in the Kinorama, frozen vodka and rakiya galore and resident Djs Lemez Lovas, Max Reinhardt & Starets sweating it out in the Gypsy Diskoteka. Feed your soul early evening with borscht ‘n’ pelmeni in the Soviet kitschen, face off over the chess boards and don’t forget to bring your balalaikas for the Soviet era silent films… “The Arts Club’s most adventurous and anarchic night (and that’s saying something)” Time Out”

Inbox Zero

Inbox Zero is a series of articles from productivity blog 43 Folders, advising on ways to clear your inbox and keep it that way… The main message that seems to come through is just to ignore it for a bit and get to work, and then to hammer through it every couple of hours…
