I spent a lovely, if somewhat random, Sunday walking around the park’s of South East London with tennis gear in tow… This was the best court so far, I’m a South African, so the concept of lawn tennis is quite romantic for me, this is only reinforced by the daisies.

Shoreditch under construction

The old railway arches running alongside Shoreditch High Street are being demolished in the general frenzy to make Shoreditch over into the shining center of the eastern quarter.

The old railway arches running alongside Shoreditch High Street are being demolished in the general frenzy to make Shoreditch over into the shining center of the eastern quarter. I’m not quite sure what is going up in this space, there are Transport For London signs on the hoardings, but Wikipedia reports the actual station will lie across the road in the old station grounds (already demolished).

I pass this site at least once a week and have watched while cranes lifted off the disused carriages which now form the Village Underground studio complex in the top right of this picture, and the actual arches came down. What this means for the remainder of the now defunct arches and bridges that provide so much of the character of this district (and home to it’s clubs), I cannot say.
