Niche hosting services

I’m doing a bit of a summary of niche hosting services that are similiar to Userzoo, I’m quite interested in different models for this, and what projects people have been able to achieve collaboratively with such initiatives.

Here’s an Australian one. They are currently undergoing two changes, one, a move to the United States for cheaper hosting, and two, a move to a commercial model, having previously worked on donations.
